Tayu Vlietstra

BIO

Tayu Vlietstra was born in Italy in 1979, part Italian, Chinese, Dutch, Irsh and Indonesian, after graduation in Chinese language and history, directed a number of documentaries on contemporary art, cinema, architecture & design between Europe and China. He worked as an assistant director with Tornatore (Malena) and video assist for Benigni (Pinocchio) and Bertolucci (Me and You). He’s main interest is the relationship between different worlds and cultures, between East and West.

Final short movie for Siena European Capital of Culture 2019 candidate City.

Maldarno is a documentary about the history of the river that cross the city of Florence. Selected to be sponsored by the 2012 Tuscan Film Found. Special Event in the 55° edition of the Festival dei Popoli International Documentary Film Festival and in conpetition at the David di Donatello awards.

“Il Palio riflesso dell’anima” is a 52’ minutes documentary for Rai Educational (Italian State Television).

Video documentation about “Ascension”, a major installation by Anish Kapoor, as a collateral event of the 54th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

The making of “Aereal Boundaries”. On the occasion of Florence’s White Night on 30 April 2012, the documentary was shoot in Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi during the new site-specific installation by Italian artist, Loris Cecchini, consisting of a group of large suspended sculptural shapes that will create a new dialogue with the perfect geometry of the Palazzo Strozzi, a symbol of the Florentine Renaissance.
